Diane Piepol is a highly experienced project director/producer professionally active in the Los Angeles digital creative community for over 20 years. Most recently she has produced public programs on creative technology topics such as Museums and Immersive Experiences and the STEAM-focused Hidden Figures/Modern Figures with NASA JPL for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Science & Technology Council.
Her producer credits encompass work on front-running digital research projects (mixed reality, spoken word interactive characters), informal education museum exhibits and creative technology public programs. • Museums and Informal Education Outreach: Leader of development strategies to place ICT’s virtual human interactive characters into informal educational settings such as museums and science centers. Including: The Newseum, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian, California Science Center.
• Co-Principal Investigator, National Science Foundation (NSF) Funded Project: Spearheaded pursuit of funding & developed collaboration with Boston’s Museum of Science on research to create life sized Virtual Human Museum Guides. The virtual human interactive characters, Ada and Grace, incorporate real-time graphics, AI and spoken word interactivity to act as guides for the museum’s technology exhibits. link
• Project Director, Mixed Reality Group: Produced mixed reality display projects, integrating real time computer graphics, immersive display technology and set construction techniques. Projects produced included: FlatWorld Display Project; Sgt. Blackwell Interactive Character, included in the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Triennial Exhibition (NYC & Boston); Sgt. Star Immersive, virtual character capable of spoken word exchange and seen by over 50,000 people; Be a Reporter & Be a Photojournalist, museum exhibits R&D for Newseum, Washington, D.C.
